Finally over

I had my hysterectomy on monday the 22.  came home on wed.  Yesterday was the worst.  I felt pretty good in the hospital.  only used the morphine pump a few times.  I walked alot in the hospital and that helped.  Had a long ride home from the hospital and I think it took its toll.  The pain meds make me feel sick to my stomach, so I try not to take them unless I absolutely have to.  I think the biggest thing to recovery is to get a lot of rest.  I will try today to get more rest than I did yesterday.  The doctor only took my uterus.  he said it was 5 times the normal size, pathology came back neg so that is a relief.  He said ovaries looked healthy so he left them.  Can't wait til I can stand up straight again !  I am glad it's over and am sure all will be better when I'm fully recovered.  also, i have no stitches on the outside, just super glue and steri strips !  Incision is about 7" long, and it doesn't hurt at all, more back ache and gas pains.  Good luck to any one going in for hysterectomy.  It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Islandgurl, it sounds like my hysterectomy exactly.  Done through the abdmen and the uterus removed only.  Also the tape and staples.  I am glad everything turned out well with you and the surgery.  I am also glad I got it out of the way after years of having to be on oral contraceptives to control my hemorraghing.

I've had the surgery and i'm going into my first year, Nov. 11. Those whom had the surgery longer, tell me when will the tiny pains from the incision sight go away. I wish there is a pain reliever that I can rub on the sight. It's really annoying when you are out in public and I have to rub myself for relief i'ts all the time. I can't sit to long or stand becasue the pain is sometime to unbearable. Any one please. NEED SOME RELIEF

forget to mention,
I had a 6cm complex cyst on left ovary, but it went away over 3 months, dr said he would look at both ovaries and if they looked healthy he would leave them (which he did)he said he could tell by looking if they looked diseased or unhealthy.  I've had cysts come and go for the past 5 years, but none bothered me 'til this one, but like I said, it did resolve on it's own.  good luck

Hi,
my surgery was about 1 hr or less, then to recovery for about an hour.
I was really scared about the pain afterwards, but they gave me a morphine pump, and I only used it a few times, so they just took it off the next morning.  Don't know about the sex drive yet, I kept both ovaries so I'm sure that part will be fine.  Just listen to Madge about the stool softeners!!   My back pain is gone so that makes me happy ! I'll be glad when I can go back to lifting etc... without having to think about it.
thanks for the bday wishes, don't feel a day older !lol  good luck with your surgery and keep ust posted.

They do a internal and check sutures etc.....ask you how you are doing. You should write down all questions so you don't forget.  I can't stress enough the stool softners. I say that to everyone I think I reply to in here.  I think its something you want to have around all the time forever, so you don't get any further problems from that. Its well worth remembering. A good grain cereal also helps. You will get tired easily for weeks and weeks.  Rest when you can and walking as much as you can without over doing is great. I had the physician assis for all checkups until the twelth week then I saw surgeon.

Sure wish I would've had the stool softeners !  I don't know why they just don't give them to you in the hospital.  I am surprised at how tired I get.  went to work mon & tues for about 2 hours.  I'm going to stay home today.  You start feeling better and I think you may overdo it.  Also, I got sneezing yesterday, ouch !  Switched to ex strg tylenol, and that's working fine.  really not much pain, more sore.  I'm here alone during the day as my husband is at work, he's been coming home several times to check on me.  my daughter will be home from college for this weekend, so that will be good. sunday is my birthday.  my husband will be leaving friday to go duck hunting, I'm sure he needs a break!   Next monday I have to return to work, but it's my office so I can leave when I get tired.  What do they do at your check up?
