Hysterectory needed for uterine polyps in a 87 year old?

I am a 87 year old woman who has abnormal bleeding due to polyps in my uterus.  My gyn wants me to have a sonogram and a D&C.  He says that if the D&C does not provide the results he wants, he would like to proceed and remove the uterus.
With a Factor 11 bleeding challenge as well as COPD, sleep apnea, and living independently, I fear the ramifications of surgery.  Are there other options?

There are newer procedures for bleeding due to uterine fibroids, which I assume are the same as uterine polyps that don't require a hysterectomy. The veins that supply blood to the fibroids are somehow blocked off from sending the blood to the tumors so that they shrink. I know it is done at a medical center where I live in N.Y. and it is a fairly new procedure but a good gyn should know about it. Ask your doctor about this and let him refer you to somewhere in your area that it's done, or call the gyn depts. at the medical center near you and find out if they have someone who can do it there. It is often used for women who need to avoid surgery due to other health issues and also for women who just want to keep their uterus intact. If I find out the exact name of the procedure I'll post it this week.
