Incision opening after hysterectomy

by mrsval, Aug 16, 2009 11:33AM
I just had a hysterectomy on 8/7/09.  My doctor sent me the next day after the operation and told me to come in to her office on 8/13 to have staples removed.  I went in and she removed the staples only for the incision to open up.  I told my doctor that I was having some leakage (Yellowish in color) and that maybe we should leave staples in for a while longer.  Now I have not eaten since the day before surgery (8/6/09) and have to have home health aid come everyday to pack the open wound.  This is very painful and I am always medicated and in pain.  Or there any suggestions as why a wound would not close after surgery???

IDK, why it did not close. Some people justsimply heal slower than others. 10 days post op is the norm for suture/staple removal, but not the right time for everyone. I amsuprised if you incision opened the dr did not apply steri-strips.

You are open so deeep/wide that it has to be packed? does yourdr know this? the yellow drain does it have an odor? Is there any blood tinge to it or even the slightest shade of green?

Why are you not eating? You need to eat to promote healing.  try a soft food diet yougerts, puddings etc, I have a journal on my home page titled hysterectomys pre and post op hints .Please read it.
It is normal for any surgical incision to drain usually its clear and smal in amount. the fact that yours is yellow concerns me. could indicate infection, is there redness, around the wound sit, is the skin near the incison warm/hot to the touch.? are you running a fever evn a low grade one?
If yes to any of the above you need to get to drs or urgent care clinic, you do not want to develop a systemic infection, staph, or MRSA.

Start eating please! I really think you should be seen by a dr soon, are you on antibiotics?
