Is This Normal?

I had vaginal hysterectomy March 12.  I was also to have a "sling" put in for my dropped bladder.  During the surgery, my bladder was torn.  The urologist felt it unsafe to do the "sling" because of the tear, so my gyn "tacked" my bladder the old fashioned way.  I had to come home with a catherer for 8 days.  Other than the catherer, I was feeling great after about 4 days; taking very little pain medication.  Now, it's been almost 3 weeks, and I begun having more bloating, abdominal aching and a feeling of pressure in my vaginal area.  I also think I have a increase in that nasty discharge that smells unpleasant.    I find it strange that I was feeling so well at first, especially after the removal of the catherer, and had no pain or bloating, now it seems I have more gas and uncomfortableness. Anyone else have these symptoms?

Hi Jenny627,
I'm having a hysterectomy in Dec 2008,also supposed to have the sling but I have heard nothing but bad comments. So I am changing my mind on having the sling done; I think I will see if I can get this done the old fashioned way also. If not I will leave well enough alone. I was happy to hear yours was good in more ways and things will clear up so thankyou for your comment.

I meant Feb 5th ... And also thats about right when they nip bladder you have catheter for short time.  However if you start feeling chills and bladder infection type symptoms I would call doctor.  Catheters are notorious for infections......did they give you Cipro or any other antibiotic?

It is all normal, I had mine on Feb tth and I am finally not as bloated and the smell is not near as bad. The odor is a small flap of vaginal tissue that is like a over hang wear they stitch you.  I found the longer I was up the more basketball like my belly got. Its swelly belly and is normal.  Take some anti gas pills to help and be sure and drink plenty of water and take colace stool softners.  Good luck. You can e mail me at
