Large mass outside of uterus--????

I have a friend who has been in pain for the last year in her abdomen.  She has been to the ER/gynecologist over the past year to know avail.

Don't ask me how they all missed it but they just found a large mass outside her uterus and behind her bowel.  She has noticed that the pain intensifies when she thinks she is ovulating and she hasn't had her period in a year.  I think she is in her early 50's.  She is freaking out.

The gynecologist says its a GI or general surgeon who has to perform the surgery, and the General surgeon says its a gynecology. Now she is going to a GI on Friday.  The gynecologist recently told her he would do exploratory surgery but he wants her to sign a waiver in case he has to take the right ovary out or perform a hysterectomy.

Why the confusion as to who gets this mass out?

Besides the enormous surgeon bill she is doing excellent.  The surgeon didn't participate with her insurance.

Other than that, she has to go back for some more tests.  After the surgery she started to get her period regularly but now she is spotting in between.

She is happy b/c the pain is gone and she feels good.  thanks for asking.

How is she now?

You were right.  She ended up in the hospital and an oncologist surgeon took the mass out.  It was benign and it was obstructing her ovary, hence  a total hysterectomy to be safe.

Thanks

I am gonna go on a limb and guess the large mass is compromising her ovary, sounds that way, She needs to skip right past "nice" and right into what ever she need to do to get her surgery, because the mass is likely growing more vascular components and will become increasingly difficult. The drs are all law suit scared. If she has no success, tell her go to local hospital and get a patient rights advocate, they will help her it is their job, DO not let this go to much longer.
