Mucinous Cystadenoma ovarian cyst

Hello,

My name is johanna and i am 21 years old . I was diognized 2 years ago that i had an ovarian cyst on right ovary which was "mucinous cystadenoma" , at that time it was 5 inches ling. After having three opinions , all the doctors recommended me to remove it through laparoscopy . 5 months ago i removed the cyst and i just found out that the "mucinous cystadenoma ovarian cyst" came back again.

My doctor told me that there is a chance that my right ovary is not functioning properly since it produced the same cyst after a short period of time . I do not know what to do ?
My cyst is 10 inches , it is definitely way bigger than the first one .He told me that he will probably remove the ovary, but before we take any decisions he told me to go on a pill for a month " jolivette" which is only "progesterone", and will get an MRI done next week and from there we willl see the result.

Ireally would appreciate any help from anyone that has been through the same thing, I am very young and i dont want to loose an ovary!!

please help me i am very worried and i really dont know waht to do ?
I really want to get pregnant but should i risk it ?

Hi Johanne, welcome. I hope to be able to help you with some of the terminology and to give you some guidance as to your options and so on.

A mucinous cyst is filled with a thich gel like material, its almost always 100% begnine,,,it can sometimes be a tumor not a cyst, also sometimes these mucinous growths are found to be a certain type of polyp.

The DRs told you your right ovary may not be functioning properly. one possibility,,another the surgeon may have not removed all of cyst and it regrew...there is no way to tell which senerio is true but its one of the two.

I have seen these types of cysts get really really big...I mean several pounds. this is usually on very obese women though.

I would urge you to get another opinion..maybe one from a fertility specialist....usually what happens when one ovary is removed..the remaining ovary does the  work of two meaning you will /should after healing time still ovulate once per month. Even if remaining ovary only functions as currently does that means you will ovulate once everyother month...no reason to think you cannot have babies.

If you by your last question mean should you get pregnant now...NO ,,,wait figure this out,,,,it doesnt sound in any way that it will be a complete hysterectomy that would mean you cannot have babies,

there is a chance should you get pregnant befpre having cyst and or effected ovary removed and you got pg..that the cyst would continue to grow maybe hyper grow and could compermise the pregnancy.

You are right your very young to have to possibly risk loosing an ovary. Its not fair ..please do get a second opinion.

I wish you all the best.
Cherie
