Ovarian function

Hello.  I am confused about something.  I had a hysterectomy over 10 years ago, but kept both of my ovaries.  When the doctor tested for ovarian function, they tested FSH and LH.  My question is:  On the labs it says, Midfollicular , Mid Cycle Peak, Mid Luteal, and Post Meopausal.  Since there is no period, which level do I look at for normal ranges.

Thank you.

Hi Welcome !

As you may know menopause from a hysterectomy (called a surgically induced menopause) ,,,,only happens if the ovaries are removed.

I checked your homepage and noted your age..your a bit young to be "post-menopause" that means your ovaries are now only trickling just a bit of hormones
The cycle is divided in two periods of differents length: the phase before ovulation (or follicular rupture) is called the follicular phase the period which follows ovulation is termed the luteal phase.. The length of the follicular phase depends on growth of the ovarian follicles and is the differences from one woman to another
length of the luteal phase depends on the life span of the corpus luteum, it is  less variable.
The mid Follicular Phase starts with the increase in oestradiol and ends at its preovulatory peak. It is characterised by increasing oestradiol and decreasing FSH and LH levels
The Early Luteal Phase starts on the day of ovulation (the day after the LH peak) and ends when progesterone has reached its plateau.
The Mid Luteal Phase corresponds to plateauing progesterone levels. It is characterised by constant elevated progesterone and constant low levels of LH and FSH

Im really a bit puzzled by "mid cycle peak" as you are claimed to be post menopausal ther should be no cycle.

anyways hope this helped some! and if I was you Id get back w my Dr and ask for some clarity. although I gave you some information...I really dont know what level you should look at as , I agree with you no period...there should be no follicles, or midcycle peak.
