Pain 12w Post Op

Hello there, I am posting here as a last resort for some advice.

I had a hysterectomy the 23 October 2007 for pelvic prolapse, I had a vaginal hysterectomy and kept both ovaries and my cervix. Prior to my hyst I was experience chronic pelvic pain (since June 06), Pain on both right and left sides of my pelvic area, a 'throbbing' pain inside my vagina (was told this was due to my uterus bearing down on my cervix), extreme pain with intercourse and many other symptoms.

Currently about 90% of the pain has returned. I now have a burning sensation on both right and left sides of my pelvic area (I suppose where my ovaries are?), cramping, and just chronic pain in my pelvic area that is too difficult to pinpoint and describe.

I have no idea what this pain is caused from but I am very confused. My doctor doesnt seem to know what is wrong either, he scheduled me for an ultrasound in March to see 'whats going on in there', but I dont even know if I can make it until March.

What if any could my symptoms be related to, and what could they be an indication of? The pain that I have is twenty four hours a day every day. I will get brief moments of time where the pain lessens but other than that I am in constant pain.

I have researched this to no end and cannot find anything explaining my symptoms. I am 21 years old, I shouldnt be feeling like the 'good years' have passed me by.

I'm so sorry to hear that your doctor has shut the door - time for a new doctor! It's your body, you know what is right and what is wrong.  Did the pain begin after you started doing work again, or was it there before? If not, you may have stressed your surgical area and something could be very wrong with the stitches. Did you have a complete hysterectomy or a partial  - if he left any of the uterus with endo being an issue perhaps he left you in a position to have repeat problems.

But the bottom line is - you are in control, not him. Find another doctor who will listen to you!

Hello.... glad to hear from you. Yes, I have lower back pain too!!  I had the vaginal hysterectomy, so I have no external stitches just the internal ones. I was told not to do any physical activity for 6 weeks. I have done a few things, as I am on a farm, and a daily habit to work. I have the pain starting in lower pelvic area, goes to the left side (hip area) and then right into my lower back. Why do you think this would happen?? I have the feeling my endo. is back, I'm even quite sure and would bet on it. I mentioned endo to my doctor again and he does not want to discuss it further. I am worried that my hysterectomy was all for nothing. Now I'm in constant pain daily. He told me that the hysto is going to relieve all my pains. Wow, not what I was expecting. What else can you tell me about your situation, are you still in pain? Talk to you again. Thanks, Shannon.... (prairiefarmgirl)

hi when i had my hysto 9 months ago i had some of the same pains my doctor said much of the same things yours did i did not have endometreosis but the internal stiches can cause a lot of pain if you are to active to fast after surgery and the external stiches can do the same thing they can tug and pull give you picky poke sensantion as well i had the zipper or slip stich to close the abdominal incision that type of stiches can cause problems due to the knots healing inside the wound afterit has been in for a few days  thats what happened to me
do or did you have sever back pain too

Hello; i just posted my pain problem and I understand how you feel. My hysterectomy was only 4 weeks ago, but i have very strong pelvic pain and it is strong on my left side in hip area and into my lower back. My uterus and cervix removed, but my ovaries are still in. I have been told that my pain shouldn't be like that and doctors office said it is ok. I don't feel right and it's constant pain like you said, and only for a short time in day does it feel ok. Do you also find it painful at night? When I lay down I still feel lots of strong, stinging pains, which I thought would be better laying down, but it's not. I know my surgery was only 4 weeks away, but I am also thinking it is my endometreosis that is causing a problem which the surgeon should have taken out too. Let me know how you are doing with your pain. Sorry you have to feel this way too; hang in there girl and remember there are others that understand how you are feeling.
Take care....Shannon.(prairiefarmgirl)

How sad that you are experience this much pain. If you can't make it until march then  you need to get a hold of your docter and tell them it has to be done sooner. If that doesn't work, go to the emergancy room and they will do one that night.

I am so sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. You are so very young and you are correct you shouldn't feel like life is passing you by. I hope that you can get some answers soon. I do know that total healing inside can take a long time, 6 months to a year I have heard. I have also heard the internal stitches can take up to 72 days to dissolve, perhaps that is part of what is going on now. I don't know but I wish you the best.
