Post-Surgical Infections - I am a mess!

I went to my GYN today because yesterday I started feeling ill and I thought I had a bladder infection, she put me a Cipro.  Today after examining me she discovered that I did indeed have a bladder infection, and she also found out that my surgical site on the inside vag. cuff  was also infected and she also found out that my pelvic floor is infected.

She said it is fairly common to get infections like these when doing abdominal surgery due to all of the "bugs" in the O.R, even when things are "sterile"!  Thats said I was given a very painful shot of the anti-biotic Roseffin (spelling) and she is also putting me on Augmentin too, in addtion to the Cipro.  Yikes I have NEVER been on so many anti-biotics in my life.  I am praying that all of these drugs kill ALL of the nasty bugs I picked up or developed.  If not I will have to be put on IV anti-biotics and that would be awful!!!  I was given 2 different IV anti-biotics before and after my surgery, so I am surprised that they did not do their job.  Has anyone else had a whooping mass of infection post-op?

On a positive note :-)  I got my pathology report back today from the dr. and she said the report showed lots of endo & adyenoma's (spelling) and then she dropped rather large bomb on me when she read the finding's from inside of my uterus...  She said that the path report stated that I was developing a major hormonal imbalance (I can't remember what she called it) and that if I would not of had the surgery I would of been at VERY HIGH RISK for developing a certain type of cancer.   She said that taking everything out when we did was a huge blessing!!!  I was stunned to think that a potential cancer was brewing inside of me.  My husband and I are praising GOD for allwoing the Endo & Adhesions to bother me to the point that I sought medical help, if not I might not have caught the condtion and ended up with uterine cancer...  I cried tears of relief on the way home from her office.  I also stopped at our local Vitamin Store and bought some Acidophilus to help my body off-set all of the anti-biotics!!!

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I fight these multipl infections :-)  I feel okay today, just a little under the weather...

Hi there,
So glad you got back to the Dr and got on antibiotics. I too developed a vaginal cuff infection post op. I started having increased bleeding, went to the Docs and found out about the infection. I was put on Cipro (Had a UTI too) and Flagyl. It's so disheartening when you go through such a big surgery and then have an infection on top of it. They also put some silver nitrate ( I think thats what it was) along the vaginal cuff to help things heal. I was good as new after another couple weeks. Unfortunately, these type of infections are relativey common after the surgery we had.
Take the antibiotics and rest. They will do the trick and have you back to your old self in no time.
That is great news that they caught a potential problem early and once you are healed, you will be better than better....
God Bless
Laney

Oh yes, this was what a refer to as a "God Thing!!!"  I ignorned the pain for a few months b/c I was preparing to test for my 5th Degree Black Belt in June.  But, then the pain got to me when I was kicking and stretching while doing my normal workouts and I knew something was very wrong.  My right lower abdomen felt like something was pulling when I kicked high and it caused me to lose some flexability.  That is when I finaly went to the dr a few weeks ago...

In the end the adhesions were what was causing me pain when I kicked high, because they were attached to my right ovary and other oragns.  The motion of kicking straight up in the air caused the pain to really "kick" into action (no pun intnded :-)

I am very thankful that my job as a martial arts instructor  /student was part of what helped me get to the dr.  If it were not for needing to kick so much, I am not so sure I would of noticed the pain from the adhesions, which led to the discovery of the ovarian cycsts and endo too.  I knew I had to get rid of what was causing me the pain, so that is why I opted for surgery, because I need to be able to kick and do my job :-)

Hindsight being 20/20, now I am praising God for the path which led me to getting my LAVH surgery.  After researching what my dr said was on the pathology report I know understand that she was refeing to me being at a high risk for developing Endometrial Uterine Cancer.   Indeed someone was watching out for me from above and i am so THANKFUL!!!

I am laying really low right now & resting a lot, trying to let the anti-biotics do their job.  The Acidolphius should help to maintain the "good bacteria", so I should not get a yeast infection.  I am also praying for healing and sending my tummy get well & healing thoughts :-)
