Regrets for having elective hysto?

Regrets for having elective hysto?

Contemplating a hysto. at the same time Dr. does Da Vinci laprascopic to remove one ovary that has a 6 cm cyst on it.  I'm 55, past menopause, totally asymptomatic, never had kids, on HRT for 5 years and counting.    No cancer in my immediate family, but definitely cardiovas. problems, dementia, and osteoporosis.  If endometiral biopsy shows "changes," I'll HAVE to have a hysto.    Otherwise, it's kind of my choice to have it done while he's in there working on the ovary.   I've gotten good info. on ovary conservation and partial vs full hysto.    But what about the issue of the hysto being elective in general?     Can't find much about it except that it's extremely common in the U.S.    Did anyone have an elective hysto. while the doctor was doing something else, and then later regret it?

The only reason I would ever advise anyone to have an elective hysterectimy would be if several family members had died from uterine, ovarian cancer, a hysterectomy would not help any of the conditions you list,. Usually a simple d and c will help with a thick uterine lining. I dont know of any repuatable surgeons who would do a preventative hyster unless strong genetic link of cancer or a DNA test showed cancer link or carrier.
I would be fairly certain you would regret it,.,,,a hysterectomy is used for women in tremendous pain as a last resort, or to prevent cancer.
