I am 25 and just had a fully hysteroctomy which sounds horrible but it is not as bad yes it is scary but if it will help you with your health in the long run it would be a good idea. I had pcos ,start of utrian cancer and found out after the surgery my fallopian tubes were starting to get cancer also which is rare during the time i ha periods i bleed really having everytime when i was 13 and as i got older i didn't have many periods so i was alway on some kind of meds to start me. Then i go the pre cancer i had been fighting for 3 years now it was very hard on me to have the hysteroctomy because i was never able to have children that weighs on me still but i know God has a bigger plan for meas well. Now the weight thing I have always been over weight but had only been my biggest the last 6 years cause no matter what i did i could not lose the weight now that i had the surgery I have lost 21 pounds so it can be a blessing if it is for your health. Hope this helped if you would like to know me feel free to write me anytime.
I had a a hysterectomy in March 2011 due to fibroids and endometreosis. I too had painful cramping, heavy bleeding and low Iron levels. I have to say I feel 100% better and it is the best thing I have done. I am 33 and was done having kids too. I know it isn't always the case, but I have not had any trouble with side effects since. I too was worried about the weight gain that you hear about, my doctor told me it isn't the lack of a uterus that makes people gain weight, its the donuts and junk food they eat afterwards!! Ok, so that is harsh and he was saying it jokingly but in the end it is true. At first I did gain a couple pounds (5 tops) but I think it was from lack of movement. Now I have way more energy than I did before and am able to do a lot more. The only thing I have noticed is my stomach is a little flabbier than it was before and I have heard that from a lot of people. Other than that I am happy I had it. No more bleeding for days on end, no more pain. And oh yeah....Sex is way better now than before!! No worries or pain!
Thanks so much for the comment I will talk to Doctor about the Abilation.....:")
Thanks so much for the posts I enjoy hearing positive posts instead of negative. I will talk to my OBGYN about the Uterine Abilation. about me having any more kids I had a Tubligation 20 yrs ago after my baby son was born, so I do not see me getting pregnant unless my name is Mary ( Jesus Mom) hehee
Hi there
Yes have to agree with AnnieBrooke .I had heavy periods lasting 10 days at a time and 4 years ago I had hydro thermal ablation . My life has completely changed and I didn't have any periods at all for a year afterwards and now only have a couple of drops for two days (panty liner will suffice) every month.
For about three weeks after the procededure I had to wear pads every day as a lot of liquid came out while I was healing inside and I couldn't do vigourous exersise but it was a day case , all done vaginally , no operation , no stitches . You should seriously consifer it. When I had it done they said it was a fairly new procedure and I was glad I didn't have to go the hysterectomy route like my mum had to as she also suffered greatly with heavy periods. I remember bleeding non stop for three months after each pregnancy as well as the heavy periods . The only relief I had was during my three pregnancies .
Hope this helps ,let us know what you decide and how it all goes for you.
xx
Talk over your concerns with the ob-gyn, for one thing. I don't think any of this is automatically going to happen. The organs don't drop inside the body of every woman who has a hysterectomy, for example. Maybe the weight gain some people say happened due to the hysterectomy was because they sat on the sofa a lot afterward (this happened to me after having a baby, and it wasn't the pregnancy, it was me sitting on the couch instead of being up and around, because I was holding the baby and breastfeeding). Talk also to the ob-gyn about possibly doing a uterine ablation, which destroys your uterine lining with hot water, instead of a hysterectomy. That way, the only "part" you lose is your uterine lining. (NOTE: Don't ever try to get pregnant after having an ablation, it can be very dangerous. But if you are resigned to losing your uterus, certainly you have already come to the decision not to have more children.)
