Still need panti liner almost a year post op

February will mark one year of hysterectomy with cystocel and rectocel repairs.  On 12 week post op check up the slight ammonia smelling drainage I was having I was told was due to stitches having not dissolved as of that time.  It will be a year in Feb and I still need panti liner or walk around with wet pants. Anyone else have this?  I think I am not going back for year check up.....cause I am not having any more bladder testing, its too degrading and I am not putting myself thru it again.

Hey you,
I am only 8-9 weeks post op hysto/bso/appy and I have the need to use a damn panty liner too. What the heck is up with this. I saw the NP for my gyn/oncs office last thursday and told her about it again and she looked at me like I had 2 heads. Her reply was that I must have had it prior to surgery and didn't know it... Well, HELLO, I would know if my panties were wet or not. I am waiting for another urine culture result, but I don't think I have a UTI. I have read that bladder leakage can be due to low estrogen and Im hoping that is all it is. We are still struggling with my dose and Im just keeping my fingers crossed that it will resolve once Im on the right amount of hormones.
Take care and I hope you are enjoying the holidays...

I wrote of Leaky badder in one of my posts to Allgirl. Take a look in Vliet's big book, Laney, on this topic. I realize that this may be a post-op thing and not a true leaky bladder issue, but I will tell you all that I saw TWO Urologists prior to my surgery and they both threw their hands up in the air (more or less!) saying they could not find the source of the problem.

Once I was on regular hormonal care the issue cleared up for awhile. Then it started again along with severe vaginal dryness and atrophy.

The Estrace (it is a bio Estradiol) helped a great deal. It stays just in that area since you apply it vaginally and so it won't affect your whole system. The whole system estrogen (Vivelle and Climara particularly since Estradiol is the best) that many of us take will help a little but you often need a boost. Two weeks of constant use and then about three times a week should be helpful.

Hormones, Hormones, Hormones. Who knew?

OH, and Madge, I hear you on the Urologist's exam. I left the office the third time I had to see one (a few years after my surgery) and said, "That's it for me for awhile."
