Total Hysterectomy, Rectocele, Cystocele

Hi - I will have a total hysterectomy anterior/posterior; rectocele and cystocele in less than ten days. What does all this mean, how long will I be in the hospital, and how long will recovery take, approximately? I know we're all different and circumstances will dictate the exact amounts, but if you have had these three procedures will you please share your story?

What was it like before, and after? Tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for sharing!

I forgot to ask - is this procedure typically done through the vagina? I know there are several options, but considering he's going to fix almost everything in that area I'm not sure. Thanks again!

I had all three of these things done on January 28, 2016. The first night was the worst. Had pain in my lower stomach.  Usually stay over one night but catheter taken out and was not able to urinate. I wore catheter home and have been a week and had it taken out on  Friday. Urinated at doctors office but when I got home I was unable to urinate without pushing and pain. Next day I had to go to the ER and have  catheter put back in. And not in any pain since after the first night. Do you have constipation problems but that is a usual. Go back to the doctor  on Monday to see what happens next about the catheter. Have been on antibiotics the whole time. Probably just too early to take catheter out. May need for healing.  Today is February 7, 2016.

My hysterectomy was done vaginally. Laparoscopic with three holes in my stomach and uterus was pulled through my vagina as well as tubes and ovaries. Rectocele and Rectocele were stitched as well as cervix after uterus removal. I stayed 2 notes but if u can pee just one nite. Whole procedure sort  of like having a vaginsl baby with episiotomy . Lol I am 71 years old with all three prolapsed.

Not sure what you are asking "what does all this mean." Are your uterus, bladder, and rectum prolapsed? Why not suspend the uterus along with the other parts versus removing it? Removing it increases risk for another prolapse down the road as well as a number of other problems. We need our uterus for more than having babies.
