cysts or hydrosalpinx

I had a hysterectomy in May of 2007.  I still have my ovaries and cervix.  In Nov of 07 I started to have pain and pressure in my pelvic area.  My doctor ordered a ct scan of my stomach.  All was good but the report said that I have multiple cysts on both ovaries.  I was then directed to my GYN...he in turn did a vaginal ultrasound and noted the same results..he put me on a course of Femcon to shrink the cysts and redid the vaginal ultrasound in two months which still showed the cysts but it also showed a hydrosalpinge (I think that is how it is spelt).  He then directed me to a collegue of his who specializes in ultrasounds and did one of his own.  HE said that the ovaries were fine and that I had bilateral hydrosalpinges.  (Years ago I had PID and my tubes were closed with scar tissue and then after the hysterectomy the other ends were closed off)!!  The doctor told me my options were to have the tubes drained but they would probably fill again, or have them taken out but that the ovaries might eventually die or to deal with the pain until menapause when the tubes would no longer be an issue?  My questions to you is this...what do you think of a ct scan and two vaginal ultrasounds all being interpreted to having multiple cysts on the ovaries and then the last doctor saying that the ovaries were fine and it was being misinterpreted and it was the tubes filled with fluid they were seeing?  And if it is the tubes what in your opinion would be the next course of action?

It is obvious that you that you are having problems. If it were me, I would have them removed. I had my ovaries removed during my hysterctomy back in July because I did not want to risk having other issues like you are having now.

Thank you so much for your comments. I really wanted my ovaries removed but my GYN said that because I was only 47 that it didn't make sense because of the early menopause thing!  I wish I didn't listen to him!!!
PS...are you saying you would have the fallopian tubes removed?
Thanks again

I am saying if it was causing me pain, heck yes I would have the tubes removed too. There is no reason to keep something if all it is going to do is cause you pain. The 47 thing seems strange for a doctor to tell you to leave the ovaries. I was 45 when I had mine last July and my doctor wanted me to remove everything so I would not have future problems. I can deal with menepause more then I could deal with the pain I was having.

Hi,

Thanks for all of your comments...you have given me some things to think about...expecially the ovary thing...not sure now why my doctor said that I was too young to have them removed if I didn't need them to be...I am seeing my GYN again tomorrow (Friday) and I will post what the outcome of that visit is...thanks again!!

I just a total hysterectmony done 3 weeks ago. My Ovaries & tubes were also not taken. I am now having like menstral cramping and lower backaches all the time. My GYN also told me he would not take my ovaries unless there was an issue with them. I am 40yrs old. I am trying to research and find out if the cramping I am now experiencing after surgery is temporary. I feel worse now then before I had the total hysterectomy.
