hormones replacement and doctor choice

by Katphlips, Aug 08, 2009 12:41AM
I had a complete hysterectomy in January,2009. I was suppose to go for exporitory surgery for the mass that was found on my right ovary but they found it to be cancer and opted, with my consent, to do a total hysterectomy. My doctor, who is a OB/GYN, preformed the surgery and after placed me on Premarin. I was worried after finding out all the health issues around premerin, especially the blood clots, since my mom died of that several years after her hysterectomy. I started having very bad stinging sharp pains in my lower legs and discussed this with my doctor but he didnt take me very serious and only lowered the dosage. The pain got much worse and I was not feeling myself so I stopped taking the premerin and opted to try a product I found on line called Amberen, so far that isnt doinganything for the hot flashes and night sweats at all but since stopping the premarin my legs are not bothering. I am taking calcium pills for my bones but I am truly worried for my health and want to find the best options for me. My family has a history of heart disese (disease), diebetes, thyroid problems and blood clots so I have alot of real concerns about medications and feeling better or feeling better and late in life costing my health due ti medications i might take now. I am scheduled to see my doctor in a motnh for my 3 month checkup and would like to have more information so I can confront him and discuss the best options for me. I also wonder about not seeing an oncologists, I have not seen a doctor in that field all my issues with the ovarian cancer have been with the OB/GYN, is this normal or should I seek a oncologist out for advice? Please help with any advice, I am so tired of gainiing weight, having hot flashes and night sweats and over all just feeling miserable and depressed.

Hi there, I have answered tons of questions about hrt and researched it extensivley. I am not a dr but have had a hysterectomy, and a bso. also have been CL here for quite some time, kearned much from others experiences, I can say with 100 % certainty that I personally think premarin is the WORST choice for hormone replacement. Could not begin to tell you how many have reported same as you. Premarin is made from urine of a pregnant horse. Bio-identical hormones are newer, safer and can be tailor adjusted for your own personal anatomy. I use Vivelle its a patch I only need estrogen for now, many need a combo. If your Drs not willing to discuss bio-identical hormone replacement therapy with you i would find one who is, Its sure worth trying. Many find relief from an herbal called Black Kosch, sometimes spelled Black Cosch
