hysterectomy and IVF

A 33-year-old female friend of mine has had a hysterectomy but still has one ovary. She wanted to know if it\'s still possible to obtain her eggs for IVF, using a surrogate mother of course.

Yes, I agree with Cherie that it is possible but your friend needs to find a reproductive endocrinologist.  S/he would probably want to do some blood work on her as well as scans and would need to meet with the potential surrogate as well.

In order to get sufficient eggs for the in vitro fertilization process, a woman is injected  with medications using one of several IVF medications to help develop multiple egg development, the eggs are developed in fluid filled sacs called follicles, measured by ultrasound, and hormone levels, the gently retrived from the follicle wall,

Your friend in theory should be able to do this, she will require testing, as to how well her remaining ovary is functioning, As you likely know its possible for retrived eggs, or fertilized embryos to be frozen for later implatation into a potential surrogate, which is a whole other issue to deal with,.,
In short there is hope and possibility this could happen , I can not tell you for sure it is possible in her case....seek fertility expertise,,,,best wishes!!!Cherie
