prophylactic hysterectomy?

I am 45, have been experiencing all the relevant symptoms of ovarian cancer since June 2009. Went to ob/gyn, had tv/us and endometrial biopsy, both normal. My instinct is telling me things are not "normal". Family history includes hysterectomies for ALL females relative on my mother's side of the family. All were for endometrial/ovarian cancer or precancer.
I went ahead and requested an appointment with gyn/onc( based on info I found here :) ) and was granted one within 48 hours of my request.
I want to request surgery and am wondering if in your experience 1) whether this is valid and 2) the odds of the doctor granting my request.

Thanks for all your help.

Ovarian cysts are odd, they can seemingly "pop" out overnight..there are several different kinds the type you have is not a functional cyst as those are always on the exterior of the ovary. We here at MH have an ovarian cyst forum perhaps you may wish to look there at some of the posts.

let me know how you next visit goes.

Thank you so much for answering!! I appreciate all your wisdom. :)

I saw the gyn/onc on Tuesday and he did a 2nd tvu/s and discovered cysts on both ovaries. I am due for a follow-up us in 5 weeks to see if there are any changes or if they have resolved. He did not give me any sizes on the cysts, just let me see them on the u/s. The one on my rt. ovary is interior and fills over half the ovary. He also noted that the right ovary was much smaller than the left. I will take your advice and request the blood work during the follow-up as well as the CT if the cysts are still present or have grown. I was very suprised that they appeared in such a short time between tests and that does have me concerned.

avisg, I hope your test comes out well for you

Hi welcome, I can start by saying one thing TRUST YOUR INSTICTS they are usually a good indication.

You need a dignosis I would not get  a hyster nor request one with out. Heres some test suggestions. CA125  a blood test for ovarian cancer...a CBC see where your white count is

ultrasounds are a OK test not the best if your having symptoms, ask for a cat or mri..it will tell more,,if they note anything suspicious ask for a biopsy a FNB or a Wedge...or a punch biopsy.

Honestly no reputable dr will do a hysterectomy based on a hunch . I believe you, keep pushing for a dignosis and hopefully you can be treated in a way that does not involve a hyster
