still in pain during intercourse-post hysterectomy

I also had a laporascopic total hysterectomy a year and a half ago. A couple of days later, I returned to the hospital with fever, abdominal pain and a rash on the upper body. The CT scan revealed a deep tissue abscess. I was readmitted and fed IV antibiotics for 1 week in the hospital. At this time, they performed another CT scan and it revealed that the abscess was still the same size. My operating Dr returned to my bedside and said that he believed that it NEVER really was an abscess that it must have been packing or something left in that should naturally dissolve in time. So I was sent home to heal. In the next six months I had repeated flares of pain sometimes lasting for weeks. Repeated CT scans were performed but the results were HARD to read because of full bowels (from taking all the pain meds). It appeared??? to be OK-nothing was viewed on CT.
Couple of months later, I arrived back at Dr's office in great pain and she pulled some tissue out of the sutures at the top of the vaginal cuff. She said it looked like part of a fallopian tube???? She sent it off and the pathologists's report came back revealing that it was NOT a fallopian tube. But my pain finally got better; I was only having occasional attacks of pain. However, I was not able to have intercourse due to pain that intensified upon deep penetration. I was treated for repeated bouts of (almost weekly) vaginitis, bladder infection, one Dr diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis, but I often have a very foul smelling discharge. I had excrutiating pain when anything was inserted into the vagina during Dr's exams and transvaginal ultrasound. All of these tests never revealed ANYTHING! And the tests performed typically caused my pain to flare for weeks.  I needed pain medication to be able to walk out of Dr's office.
Now to complicate things even more- my husband and I were laid off from our jobs and lost our health insurance!
My OB recently told me that since she can't see anything from the Ct scan that she needs to do exploratory surgery to see if there is anything that may have been sown to the INSIDE of the vaginal cuff. (Since we removed some tissue from the outside). My question is can we do an MRI or PET scan to see if there is something inside the vaginal cuff without doing surgery again? Or is this impossible due to lack of insurance?
We just tried intercourse again last night. We had to stop early because of stabbing pain. I then laid there for a couple of hours with throbbing pain in the abdomen, vagina, and down the back of my left leg. I have just recently posted here for tramadol pain pill addiction /withdrawal. They REALLY help with the pain, but I couldn't NOT take them on the days that I was pain free without severe withdrawal symptoms. I am 6 days pain pill free but in a lot of pain again. My Dr says that she will not refill the tramadol. She wants me to come in and get shots in the vaginal cuff to numb the pain for????? How long? Shots are VERY painful. I just cannot endure it. I am emotionally, physically and now financially whipped. I do have an appointment on June 1st with a new OBGYN, to start this circus all over again!
