surgical menopause after BSO

Well its now 12 1/2 weeks since BSO, and have just been put off work for a further 4 weeks minimum, which will make 4 months total. Please anyone having ovaries removed, make sure you are prepared for surgical  menopause. I wasn't, and was one of the rare few that basically just had a mental breakdown. I have been on HRT for 4 weeks and that has made a huge difference, and antidepressants for 8 weeks, which are still being adjusted. I have always been the one that picks myself up, brushes myself  off and gets back into it, and this has just hit me like a ton of bricks. At least now I can see that in 4 weeks, I'm 100% better than I was back then, but this whole journey has really shaken me and my family to the core. Remember this is rare, but don't put all your focus on the hysterectomy fixing everything.

Well good for you on the quiting smoking, yes dealing with that alone is very hard, not to mention the pain meds and surgery..Ask your dr if you can use a nicotine patch if your still craving smoking.

Thanks for your thoughts, having a better week, guess its all a time thing when things go so out of whack. I now realise that months of strong pain medication, major surgery, quitting smoking, and losing hormones = very unstable person.... but dare I say that the big black cloud is lifting.

Your right, being just thrusted into a medical menopause is not the way nature intended.
Supossed to be years if building up to it.

I am sorry you are suffering so, most drs start atleast estrogen replacement right away
the combo of anti depressants and hrt should help...be aware for both the those meds getting thet right med for you may take a few adjustmentments...everyones chemistry is different....It sounds like your on a good path now,

A hysterectomy is a very major surgery,,he are healing/pain/loss of female hormones. for some loss of sexual desire...there is meds for this...kinda like  a womans viagra../ there and are many feelings of loss( for some) , emotional pain.for some almost lke a post traumatic syndrome..
I must say  there is a very broad spectrum...I have had women breeze right threw it and been thrilled with results..and most are in the middle..some women claim its all but ruined their lives..this never needs to happed one must advocate for self...be pushy till you are satisfied.

feel better
