uterine prolapse

uterine prolapse

I am 67 yrs. old.  My ob/gyn has told me I have cystocele and uterine prolapse, and that I need a vaginal hysterectomy and TVT.  I have not had bad or noticeable problems, maybe leakage with a bad cough.  I have not noticed anything with my uterus, but the dr says while they do the TVT I should have the hysterectomy.

My question:  Should the ovaries be removed or left in tact?  I think perhaps I am still producing some hormones because I haven't had problems that might suggest otherwise.

Question 2:  Is the TVT a good option?  Are there health problems from the surgery that I should be aware of?

I have never had surgery and am afraid of causing other problems by having the surgery.

Thank you

If you do not have any symptoms, you may want to ask your doctor why he is telling you that you "need" an elective surgery?  I think it would be in your best interest to get another opinion.  You may also want to contact the HERS Foundation for more information about your options, or if you really need any surgery at all.  Good luck to you.

Thank you.  I did go to the HERS Foundation and am really feeling like I DO have a choice and I should NOT have surgery at this point while I am thankfully not having bad symptoms.  Thank you for your imput.
