pertussis

My son and daughter in law are getting ready to have there first baby in about 6 weeks. When I went to see them last month they told me i needed to get a pertussis vaccine. Is this true? and should it be done before the baby gets here. And how long before?
Thanks for your help

Makes no sense to me. Pure nonsense.

From what I understand, older adults may no longer have strong immunity to Pertussis.  With certain vaccines, I think for adults they are adding the Pertussis back into it, if you so choose, but I'm not 100%sure.  Also, not sure if this is a recommendation by the Pediatricians or your daughter.

Here is some more info on the combined vaccine.  When a friend of mine was injured and needed a tetnus booster, he was offered the tetnus + pertussis .
