AIDS cocktail

I am helping an HIV+ friend who has put off getting any treatment until this point.  She is now showing some signs of being easily infected:  a case of oral thrush, and gastritis several weeks ago.  By appearance she looks fairly healthy although clearly has lost weight in the past 6 months.  Question:  she is now going to be getting treatment and hopefully will be on the AIDS cocktail shortly.  Will this be helpful if she is showing opportunistic infections, or has she waited too long?  Since she has no resistance (never having taken anything), can the cocktail improve her situation and lower her viral load?
