Cellulitis?

If someone has cellulitis caused by staph , is that wound contagious after the draining? Since it is now open and no longer underneath the skin?

Hi,
How are you? Antibiotics are usually prescribed after draining to ensure that there is no risk of secondary infection. Cellulitis usually goes away with 7 - 10 days of antibiotics. Daily wound care and topical antiseptic and antibiotics may also help. The risk of getting an infection increases if there is crack or break in the skin. Hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.
