Diseases associated with Travel to India

by starlight11, Nov 01, 2009 10:35PM
I was wondering what types of water-related dieseases are associated with travel to India and how these diseases could be spread? I understand that the water variation depends on where you stay--such as in rural or urban areas but to beware of water everywhere as a precaution. I also understand that gastro-intestinal diseases are common, bacterial and parasitic to be specific. Can parasites enter the blood stream via an open wound when bathing in contaminated water? My question is, which pathogens (viruses, bacteria, parasites) would be most likely to spread via an open wound in contaminated water in developing countries? Would HIV be among this list?
