Does in fection ALWAYS cause WBC to be high?

Can someone have a chronic  infection and still have a normal White Blood Count (WBC)?  I feel ill.  I cough up sputum and have muscle aches and stomach pain.  Could some of the medicines the doctors have given me in the past have made an infection worse?  Examples:  I was given antibiotics (for 5 days-it was called Z-PACK).  Would this have made another infection worse, if it was the kind that needed longer antibiotic treatment?  (Like Lyme Disease, or H.PYLORI).  I wa also given prednisone.  Would this suppress the immune system so an infection could get worse?  I HAVE H.PYLORI THAT I DIAGNOSED MYSELF, BY ASKING TO BE TESTED FOR IT.  Te antibiotics did not help, and now the doctor will not re-test me to see if I still have it.  My stomach still hurts, and I vomit if I eat anything that is not bland.  Does H.PYLORI  cause intestinal permeability, and would this make me ill?

And finally...would cytolomeglovirus show up in a CBC test?

I know these are technical questions...but does anyone know the answers?  I think the doctors have made me more ill, because they do not know what they are doing, andf I am getting sicker.

Thank you for your help...I really feel sick, so  I started researching fatigue on the internet, because one doctor sent me to an infectious disease doctor for my fatigue and he did not test me for anything,  I found out that Epstein Barr Virus and Cytomegalobirus cause chronic fatigue, and that Cytomegalovirus can be acquired at birth (congenital)...and I wonder if I have had it all my life?  I have always been tired, but I really started getting sick in 2001, so I also wonder about Lyme disease.  My doctors (at the Cleveland Clinic) do not take me seriously, and I have to find hlp elsewhere.  I am becoming disabled.  (Do you know anything about flea bites?  (I was bitten all over both ankles in 1995, when I had to go to a relatives was house that was empty for several months and flea infested.)  It is a long story...but could massive flea bites make me sick?

Hi Jean, sorry to hear that!  I'm not a doctor, so I don't know the answers to a lot of your questions.  I can tell you that high WBC generally means your body is actively fighting something; what that something is needs to be determined by other tests.  Also, I don't know a lot about cytomegalovirus, but I don't think it would show up on a CBC.  I highly doubt that your doctors have made things worse, but if you don't trust them, maybe you should look into switching to another.  Either way, it definitely sounds like you're not in good health, so something needs to be done.  Hope things start going better!
