HIV Transmission Risk - BandAids

Hi, I had gone for a blood test and once the test got over, the healthworker gave me a dried cotton. After 5 mins, i threw away the cotton, but i was still bleeding from the punctured site. By that time the health provider had removed his gloves. He peeled the bandage with bare hand and applied directly on my punctured spot. In case he had open sores and he touched the centre portion of the bandaid ( which he did while peeling ) before applying directly to the punctured site, do i carry any chance of hiv or any other infection ? Should i go for a hiv test. Please help as this incident is causing a lot of stress.

Since your blood was coming out I don't think so. It was bad technique but I think you are okay. If you don't see a infection at the site it won't be a problem for you to acquire a blood infection.

Thanks for the info. I browsed a couple of websites which says that there is a risk attached when there are open sores. If the healthworker had touched somebody's else hiv blood and touched my band aid gauze before putting on to my punctured site, do i still carry a risk ? Or if the heathworker had sores then are there chances of any other infection ?

NO you are okay. You were bleeding and if he had anything on his finger it would be pushed out by the bleeding. Anything on his finger would be dead also because dried HIV dies. There is no reason to worry about this.

Take care,
