Hi sharanya133,
Please ignore my last post. I meant to say you need to get the cat tested before you bring it into the house. Cats can give you and your father leptospirosis. Other animals can as well. If you can't afford to test the cat i wouldn't bring him in. Do you think the cat gave your father Leptospira or was he bitten or scratched by another animal, like a rat or dog? I wouldn't try to get the animal vaccinated for rabies until they have tested the cat throughly for Leptospirosis if you suspect he got it from the cat. It is easy to get from the cat. I do hope that your father is better or being tested for leptospirosis and if he is weak then he may need antibiotics. They can test his blood and do a complete blood count to see how he is doing. Does he still have a fever? How about you do you have a fever still? If you have a strong immune system you should better for a while. It is best to get treated with antibiotics. It is not caused by a virus it is caused by a bacterium called Leptospira. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'll try to help.

Hi and sorry about your father. We are not doctors on here however, we all have personal experiences, some of us are nurses, physician assistats, and microbiologists Is he being treated with antibiotics? It is caused by a rat bite usually. If you want to send your blood tests and Xray you can on this site or your home page but not by skype or email. I think getting the rabbies vaccination for the cat is ok. I don't see why you can't have a cat around. I'll check into this for you. Can you tell me which laboratory tests he had and if he had blood cultures and a complete blood count.
thanks,
