Should I take more amoxicillin for tonsillitis?

OK, so I will freely admit this wasn't the best decision ever, but I was feverish and delirious when I started down this track ... Had tonsillitis in Jan. Doc prescribed amoxi to help battle the infection (not the underlying virus, obviously). Took pills for full 10 days but missed four total doses in that time.

Recurrence of tonsillitis set in Wednesday; I was *miserable* by Thursday.  Figured, well, I'll *start* these ABX I have leftover and see if they make a dent. Got a line on more (I have veterinary connections) and can continue taking in same dosage when they arrive tomorrow.

Still felt terrible Friday, feel *much* better today (Saturday). Ulceration of tonsils has almost fully cleared. Lymph nodes are still swollen but far less so than yesterday.

Should I go ahead and put myself through the rest of the full 10-day course (trying not to miss any more doses this time) once the drugs show up tomorrow? Or is it more likely that this would have run its course in three-four days anyway and letting my immune system take over from here (paying attention to eating well, hydrating, etc. now that I can swallow things again) is a better approach?

I know there are some naysayers to the "take all X days of these ABX for minor/common infections" camp as is. I also *definitely* don't want this recurring again, so if I have to nuke my intestines to kill this thing for good, so be it ...

It's rare for me to get this sick more than once every two to three years, so twice in three months was quite the surprise.

Hi how are you feeling now? You should always take a full course of antibiotics as long as you are not allergic to it or having bad side effects because if you stop them when you start to feel better and don't take the full course you encourage bacterial resistance.  Also, if you don't know if you have a virus or bacterial infection you shouldn't take antibiotics either for the same reason and they won't work. Best to see a doctor and not guess.
