DNC or wait? Help please

I am 4o years old. I had two miscarriages last year one at 8.5 weeks and on at 5wks. I have had no prior pregnancies, This year i became pregnant again. LPM was Dec 13, 2007. I tested positive Jan 11 iwth an HCG level of 19. Jan 14 HCG level of 73 Jan 17 112. Jan 22 383 Jan 23 466 Jan 25 535. My first u.s on Jan 23 my doc thought he saw a small sac well we all saw a small oval black dot. Second u/s on Jan 25, nothing in the uterus. Doctor thought it may be ectopic. Today, Jan 28 third u/s vaginal and abdobinal showed nothing in the uterus. Doctor would like to do a DNC an wednesday and a posiible laporoscomy to rule out ectopic. I have never had a DNC. I waited to bleed naturally on my first two. My husband asked ifthere woudl be a risk to wait to bleed naturally and the doctor said no I coudl wiat because he had a hunch that this was not ectopic. Well, how dos a hunch work. If the HCG is going up even slowly ...isn't there a pregnancy somewhere? My husband would liek to wait and let me bleed naturally(he doesn't have to wait) I am scared and woudl liek to have children one day and want to do the best thing HEALTHWISE not emotion wise. Help?

As long as you are safe and in the care of your doctor, and your doctor feels that it is not an ectopic then you can wait. The level of beta HCG is not rising appropriately and that is why the doctor is suspicious that is either an abnormal pregnancy in the uterus or an ectopic pregnancy. Your doctor's hunch that it is a pregnancy in the uterus but not a normal one and that you may miscarry on your own. Needless to say, you will need continued close monitoring by your doctor by continuing beta HCGs and ultrasounds.

I am glad that I found your post again,
we are so in the same boat. I am going today for an ultrasound.
just to recap my situation
I am also 40 and our LMP are the same, gee we even tested the same day, well on the 11th I did a HPT and it was positive.
I am still on guarded status with the Drs.
My labs have been
1/17  408
1/21  830
1/24  1345
1/28  2800
so they changed my ultrasound until today at 12:20.
If you want to email me I think that would be great since we are in exactly the same boat.

hi there i've been looking for you,so you still have a chance of hope,i'm praying for you, i had my methotrexate shot yesterday,good news is my tube didn't rupture,i got took into hospital on sat morning thats why i haven't been on,stayed for bed rest until yesterday when they done it,so i have a long 3 month wait to ttc,i hope everything is ok for you,stay in touch,x

Thanks for your response. I never even knew of this option! I like it. I had some added news in the evening. My American military doctor called with my HCG levels of today, 893. She said by no means should I do a DNC and that I shoudl just trust all is well until they rule it out 100%. I will have more blood drawn Wednesday and hopefuly another u/s this week. I'll wait and pray...thank you again I'll keep you posted.

I had an emergancy laporoscomy in early december. My HCG levels where not matching up with my ultrasounds which showed basicaly nothing. I was so scarred. My doctor gave me the option to wait for a week but he warned me that if it was etopic it could rupture and possibly kill me so my husband said no. Then he offered to do the surgery with out using the manipulator ( this is the device that moves your uterus around to remove the pregnancy). This would reduce the risk of me miscarrying greatly if the pregnancy was not etopic. If it was then they would remove it right then. Ask your doctor about the options that you have. It is important for you especially to be careful after having two miscarriages.  The surgery went well and It turned out that I just had a high hormone level and it was to early to see the baby. I am know 14 weeks preg. and doing well. I wish you the best of luck and god bless. Please post to let us know what happens
