Is there still REAL hope?

Dear Doctor-
I am now 35 and have 2 healthy children (10 & 14) with previous husband. Married to 27 year old man who also has a child  (8) from previous marriage.  Had tubal ligation in 1998 and had right side successfull reversed in 2006. Went thru 2 years now of 8 cycles clomid and ovidrel with same RE that did the  2006 surgery.

Had testing for  IVF in Feb and found out DH had issues:
Volume at 1.8 ml. Pearl color. Count 42.0 sperm count. ejaclate 75.6. motile ejaculate 36.3. Percent motile 48% . progression 2.5 .Abnormal Morp 86% .no excessive debree.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
we then had the following result for the actual IVF:
Volume 2.6 Ml .Count 81.0 . Percent motile 59% .Progression 3 . Post wash was 4.0 ml volume . 12.0ml count . percent motile 89%. progression 3
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During that time period (feb & March) he had been smoking for about 9 years and drinking alcohol and I suspect some other vice such as smoking weed ( never admitted it).

We used ICSI with a study progesterone and the IVF failed after 2 eggs were transferred (8c & 6C). Since that time period, he has quit everything (drinking and smoking ) and this month we started (both of us) FERTILAID supplements. Is it reasonable to believe that his Semen will improve at all and how quickly? I'm getting older and don't have many more months to try and have a child with him. We have exhusted alot of money thru all these treatments so we are looking for real results without going back to the RE..

FYI my right tube was fine, FSH is 4.6 and everything has been fine with me .. even had a HSG done to make sure the tube was patent. Please be REAL and Honest..

Would it benefit us to try clomid protocol again??

His semen analysis could improve but it needs to be checked at least 70days after stopping drinking and smoking and taking Fertilaid.  I suggest a strict morphology or kruger criteria to get an accurate idea of what his semen is really doing. If it has improved then you could go back to trying ovulation induction with Clomid or injectables with IUI.  If the semen analysis is poor ie less than 5million total motile sperm, or morphology<5%, IVF/ICSI would be the correct option.
