MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Vaginal discharge which smells fishy could possibly a condition called bacterial vaginosis which is an overgrowth of abnormal bacteria.  I suggest that you see your doctor to diagnose it and make sure that you do not have any other problems.  If is it bacterial vaginosis--this not a sexually transmitted disease and it can be easily treatment with oral anitbiotics called Metronidazole or by Metronidazole vaginal cream. However, you should see your doctor to address your concern.

I feel for you honey.  You say you are twelve. Are you sexually active is the first question I would need to ask. By the way if it helps, I'm a 33 year old Mom  and I have a daughter that is 10. I have been there, and know how embarrassing vaginal odor can be.  If you are not sexually active (and I hope you're NOT)  then my guess would be it's just a mild infection, like bacterial vaginosis which will cause fishy odor and some discharge . This can happen to a virgin or a sexually active woman. It could also be a number of other vaginal infections. There is one STD (sexually transmitted disease) called Trichomoniasis , or Trich for short, that will cause itching, and a fishy odor. Typically you will have strong fish odor, and frothy, greenish smelly discharge.  These are all treatable with antibiotics. You absolutely HAVE to tell your Mom, or someone you can trust, like an Aunt, Grandma, even the school nurse. Please please don't be embarrassed, it's absolutley nothing to feel ashamed about and has happened to the best of us. You need to see a Doctor, a gynochologist and see if it's an STD, or maybe vaginosis. Or there might be no infection, and you simply need to start douching. But usually, that kind of smell is not the normal thing, so it's probably just an infection. It is especially important that you see a doctor, as leaving these kinds of infections untreated can cause damage to your reproductive system, and also, if you Are sexually active,  STOP! Don't have sex any more, you're wayyyyy  too young. I am not saying that you are, but just in case, I wanted to say that.  You have to see a doc, there's no getting around it.  And let me point out, that some vaginal discharge, is totally normal, and All women and young girls will have some, but it shouldn't smell bad or fishy. Even once you see the doctor and take care of what's causing this, you will likely still have regular vaginal discharge every month. Also, have you started having your periods yet? That can also cause some odor,  but it's usually not fishy, it smells more bloody than anything.  Whatever you do,  DO NOT listen or take advice from your 12 year old girlfriends about sex,  what smells are normal and what aren't, or any other thing relating to your reproductive/ female system.  Ask an Adult.  Get yourself to the doctor okay? And don't be embarrassed, it's something that happens all the time to girls and women. It is most likely not something serious. There may not even be any infection, but if there is, you don't want it to go untreated.  Hope this helps, and take care!
