helpless of laparoscopy

helpless of laparoscopy

I am 33 and married, no kids yet but have plan to have kid. In the past, I am in good health condition, no smoke, no drink, no medication and exercise regularly. I was diagnosed right ovarian cyst at the size of 6.7cm on Septembrer, 07. I have been waiting several months. The cyst is the same size. I scheduled laparoscopy to remove the cyst on Feb. 6.

What makes me not sure is the surgery will be done by other doctor I do not know. My current Dr. will be the assist. When I asked my Dr. both of their experince on removing cyst by laparoscopy, his answer makes me worried a lot. He had not done this before( he is third year residency). And he is not sure the other doctor's experince on doing this kind of surgery. He was keeping reminding me that the other  docter is an infertility expert. Then I googled the dr. who will perform laparoscopy on me. Here is some information of him: He is Reproductive Endocrinology and got his board certificate at Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1998. His interest is :AIDS/HIV Infection, Allergy/Immunology, Artificial Insemination, Contraception/Family Planning, Gynecologic Endocrinology, Hysteroscopy, In Vitro Fertilization and Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer, Infertility, Laparoscopy and Laser Surgery, Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

I do reproductive research on animal includes in vitro fertilization and I knew some friends do artificial insemination, In vitro fertilization for human, but none of us can do surgery.

Is it normal the dr. is not the one perform surgery on patient? If he can not peform the surgery, why does not he refer me to other doctors? Is the dr. will perform surgery on me trustable by reading the information I got from internet?

The reason why your doctor is requesting the REI to do the surgery is that your doctor is a 3rd year Resident. This is how and OB/GYN residency training works. It looks like you went to a training program clinic about your problem. The best way to allay your fears, is to request a direct visit or call with the REI who is going to be the responsible surgeon for you. Ask the doctor if they are going to be doing the surgery and ask this doctor about their experience. It is your right to speak with the doctor who is going to operate on you and have all your questions answered.
