I passed a kidney stone approx 4 weeks ago. Anyway ever since I passed the stone I still have the sensation right where the stone was with the constant urge to urinate ( although I can hold). My doctor says my bladder is just spasming but doesn't this seem a little long. What can it be and what can be done. Please help I am loosing my mind.

When you pass a kidney stone it passes thru the ureter from the kidney to the bladder.  As the stone passes thru the part of the ureter that passes thru the wall of the bladder the stone irritates the bladder and causes urgency and pain radiating down into the urethra.  Usually when the stone passes out completely, the urgency sensation resolves in a day or two. Swelling in the ureter where the stone was can cause persistent symptoms for few days after stone passage.  If the urgency has persisted for over a month, there may still be a problem.  One possibility is you still have at least part of the stone stuck in the ureter giving you persistent symptoms. You need an IVP  (dye injection kidney x-ray) or CT scan to confirm the stone has passed completely and that the ureter is not obstructed. A UTI can also cause urgency.  If there is no structural or infectious cause for the urgency the stone may have (somehow) triggered new onset overactive bladder.Treatment with a medication for overactive bladder will reduce the urgency to void.  Good Luck.
