sound like interstitial cystitis?

I have no STD's and no urine infection ( have taken trimethoprim over and over) but have an irritated urethra and need to pee frequently. the only thing my doctor hasn't tested for is ureaplasma urealyticulum (UU) which apparently gives the same symptoms, im only 19, i really hope its not interstitial cystitis.I also bleed during sex and have painful sex.

Any thoughts or opinions grately appreciated, it's driving me insane.

Hi, you will probably have better luck with your gynecologist who is used to treating pelvic infections.  Again, it's unclear what your diagnosis is, but a course of  Cipro or doxycycline prescibed by your gynecologist makes sense if they don't/ can't do the cultures.  A urodynamic test involves placing a very small catheter into the bladder and filling it up with water while testing sensation, capacity and how well your bladder contracts.  It's s simple test, done in the office, usually for patients with incontinence, retention or other bladder problems.  Good luck

Alright so i went to my doctor. And like i thought they wouldnt do a test to mycoplasma or UU. They are refering me to a gynaecologist because of the bleeding and having a urodynamics assessment too.

so im taking matters into my own hands as im fed up of feeling rubbish.... 500g cipro twice a day for how long?

they are doing a urine analysis again but i doubt they'll test for mycoplasma or UU.

Also what happens during a urodynamics assessment? as im a little scared about the whole process and can't seem to find out about the process online.

many thanks

Thankyou very much, I have been looking into ureaplasma and mycoplasma and am going to discuss this with my doctor today, unfortunately here in the UK both of those bacterias are considered " normal" and not usually tested for, so im gonna have to press the issue ALOT me thinks.Pain during intercouse i just found was a symptom of mycoplasma, all my symptoms seem to fit that.

another question sorry: all these symptoms started off after having cystitis( it got treated with trimethoprim), do you HAVE to have sex to get ureaplasma or mycoplasma, or are they there normally?
because i hadn't had sex til after these symptoms had started.

Many thanks

HI,  You may have more than one problem.  If this is not the usual bacterial infection, based on urine cultures that are clear, this could be a urethritis with an atypical organism like ureaplasma or mycoplasma.  The best treatment for these usuaual organisms is cipro 500mg  twice daily or doxycycline 100 mg twice daily.  If that doesn't clear it up, this could be a structural problem and you need a pelvic exam and look into your urethra by a Urologist who can diagnose a urethral diverticulum or bladder  problem.  Bleeding during intercourse is usually a vaginal problem and needs to be evaluated by your gynecologist. If these things are ruled out, then this could be interstitial cystitis. Start with your gynecologist to chech for a local problem in the vagina causing the irritation and go from there.  Good Luck.
