Straining after Cystoscopy?

Straining after Cystoscopy?

Hi all, I am new to medhelp and I am very curious about my problem.
I had a 2nd bladder distention and my first bladder instillation today. I am 17 years old and I have been officially diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. I am in some pain when I pee, but my main concern is how my pee leaves my body.

My bladder has been constantly needing to empty but when I sit down nothing happens. I need to strain to start the stream of my urine. I know straining is a very bad thing but how else am I supposed to relieve myself??

Is this normal after a procedure that I went through? And will I be able to pee on my own without straining?
Thanks! :)

Hi there!

If you feel a constant irritation and a feeling to pee without any actual passage of urine or little urine, the symptom could be related to IC itself or could be a sign of infection. However if you have difficulty passing urine, possibilities like sphincter spasm following cystoscopy, adhesions, growths etc may need to be considered. It would be best to have this evaluated by your urologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
