recurrent cystitis

I have just had several bouts of cystitis. In the past amoxycillin was prescribed and always did the trick. This time I was told that amoxycillin wasn't recommended any more so I had trimethoprim - didn't do the job- followed by nitrofurautoin which also didn't do the job. I found some amoxycillin that I was given to "have by me" and after 5 tablets I was much much better. I am continuing the dose for another 2 days. Why won't the doctors prescibe this any more?
