Basal hypertrophy

Basal hypertrophy

1.  What does it mean when on male (with a normal Blood pressure and BSA of 2.10) echo is written the following: "Interventricle Septum 1.3 cm,  Post. Wall Thickness 1.0 cm. IAS//IVS - The interatrial and interventricular septa are normal. CONCLUSIONS  Mild basal septal hypertrophy with normal systolic function. EF=60 +/- 5%?"  2. How can interatrial and interventricular septa above be normal when interventricle Septum is 1.3 cm? 3. Usually is interventricle Septum thickest at basal part? If no where it is the thickest? 4. Do old small heart attack(s) or aerobic exercise(36 minutes 6-7 days a week) cause the above findings? If no what does? 5. Does above causes rare ventricular ectopic beats in isolation? 6. When everything else on echo is normal except the above is heart considered structually normal? Thank you.

You have mild basal septal hypertrophy and this could be due to a good aerobic exercise program.  The basal septum is generally the thickest part of the septum.  It is possible that this mild hypertrophy could cause the ventricular ectopy.
