LVAD

I have a friend who said she had an LVAD fully implanted a month ago.  She was only in the hospital for TWO days.  This was a clinical trial.  My question is, can any LVAD be implanted without the chest being cut open?  Also, is it feasible that someone would be released after 48 hours of an LVAD being implanted?  Thanks

There are some new devices in trials that are less invasive but all require surgical implantation and two days seems a short time.
