NEED ADVICE ON HEART CONDITION

by arttexts, Jan 14, 2008 12:11PM
I am 35 years old. TEE revealed a large PFO, Septal Aneurysm, and Mitral and Tricuspid valve regurgitation. Surgeons tried to repair PFO in an implant catheter procedure and were not able to do so and removed device. Hole more like a burrow they said too long for this device. I am having neuro issues such as massive headaches lasting days sometimes weeks, dizziness, vision issues, confusion, seeing auras and stars, major fatigue and out of breather very easily. (I am not over weight or obese) Suspected TIA's but not confirmed. No major stroke or heart attack at this point. Was wondering if you know of any procedures other than the catheter and open heart to help fix this issue and was wondering if the valve regurgitation is an issue or not? Thank you so much for your time.

The symptoms you have could be due to migraines and they are associated with PFO.  I would suggest that you see a neurologist and get that opinion if you have not done so.  There are two devices currently available for closure of the PFO and several more are in the testing phase.  Open heart surgery is a big step and I would be reluctant to recommend that.  The symptoms don't sound like they are due to valve problems.

Hi. Thanks for responding to my question. I am seeing a Neurologist, Endocrinologist, Cardiologist, and now a Rheumatologist. It is suspected that some of my symptoms are PFO related. I had surgery on December 17th to try to close this with the catheter procedure but they were unable to do this. The implant can not be used with my type of hole. Long burrow. Not ready for open heart surgery but would like to feel better. Do you know of any procedures that are open to me other than those 2? Thank you.
