Pediatric aortic dilation

Pediatric aortic dilation

When my son was 71/2 years old, he was diagnosed with MVP and a dilated aorta.  His first appointment, his aortic root was 2.9 cm.   He has been monitored yearly as well as genetically tested for Marfan's, Ehlors-Danlos and Loeys-Dietz (sp?).  These tests were negative.  His most recent cardiology appt was yesterday.  In one year, is aortic root increased from 3.1cm to 3.5.  His doctor wants to see him again in 6 months and is talking medication.  I am having a hard time finding any information without leading me to marfans sites.  Does anyone know of support groups?  Should I seek a 2nd opinion?  We have a family Hx of heart disease ( my father had valve replacement at 51 years of age and died at 64 of a heart attack in his sleep) and aneurysms (brain and abdominal- my Mother in law was hospitalized this summer for 6 weeks due to a ruptured brain aneurysm).  Don't get me wrong- our doctor is great.  I hate the idea of waiting for another 6 months to find out the next stage.

It sounds like your doctor is doing the right thing by watching and waiting.  This is difficult when you are the parent--but is is likely the right thing to do.
