THANK YOU FOR YOUR PROMPT REPLY, COULD YOU POSSIBLY ADVISE ME ON THE FOLLOWING BY THE WAY I LIVE IN THE UK AND AM 55 YEARS OLD

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN ASD, AND RIGHT VENTRICLE AND ATRIUM DILATION, AND HAVE HAD 2 EPISODES OF A FIB IN THE LAST YEAR, THE HOLE IS SMALL - MEDIUM IN SIZE WITH A SMALL RA FILLING DEFECT, I AM ON WARFARIN AND SOTALOL MY JUNIOR CARDIOLOGIST SAID HIS PEERS ARE UNSURE WHETHER TO COVER THE HOLE OR NOT, HE IS A LOVELY DOCTOR AND EXPLAINS THINGS VERY WELL, HE SAID THEY WOULD LET ME KNOW OF THEIR DECISION IN 2 WEEKS, FROM HIS ATTITUDE I AM NOT HOPEFUL, WHAT ARE THE RISKS TO ME IF IT REMAINS UNTREATED, I ALSO THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY HEART, WHAT IF LEFT UNTREATED DILATES EVEN FURTHER. IF THEY CAN FIX IT WHY DONT THEY, I ALSO GET VERY TIRED AND SOMETIMES SHORT OF BREATH. THANK YOU CARROLL

If the anatomy is suitable catheter closure of an ASD is less invasive than open heart surgery with much less discomfort and a speedy recovery within a few days.  The long term results have been good with this procedure.  You should really feel no after effects from the device being in your heart.
