asymmetric ventricular hypertrophy

asymmetric ventricular hypertrophy

Hi,

I had an echo that stated:

Mild asymmetric left ventricular hypertrophy
Mildly dilated right ventricle

I have had many cardiac deaths in my family.  My mother also had asymmetric left ventricular hypertrophy and a dilated right ventricle.  She ultimately died of HF.

I understand that asymmetric ventricular hypertrophy and dilated ventricles are inherited.

Should I be receiving any treatment?

Also, should my family have genetic testing?

Thank you for your help.

Asymetrical septal hypertrophy is a feature of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy which can be inherited and may also require treatment. "Mild asymetrical left ventricular hypertrophy " does not clarify if this represents Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. You should discuss this with your physician/cardiologist

Seems possible you could have HCM(Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). It has also been known as IHSS, but that is a term that is now outdated.  It is genetic, however genetic testing for HCM is still a work in progress.  Your family should be tested via EKG and echocardiogram at the very least.  There are many helpful sites regarding HCM online if you want to learn more.  4HCM.org is a great site.
