heart symptoms from bad lifestyle choice

hi,  i'm a 32 year old male.   i used to exercise every day and eat decently but then i went through some depression where i had very little to no physical activity for about 8 months.....during that time i smoked over a pack a day and ate bad food....for example i would eat unhealthy food such as pizza or mexican food or something with a gazillion carbs, and then for desert i'd have a truly ridiculous amount of oreo cookies or other stuff high in saturated fats....I gained about 30 pounds during that time and i guess the only thing that kept me from gaining more was that i smoked like a chimney..

Anyway what i'm getting at, i started having chest pain...big surprise there....but my echocardiogram, chest xray, labs,  including cholesterol checked out normal....So, what with my lifestyle could have caused this if the cholesterol is normal?    (i'm sure it was that since i've gradually started feeling better since i changed my diet radically and quit smoking)   So, how if those tests were normal, what would it have been?

If you haven't had a stress test I think it would be reasonable-- a treadmill stress test would be appropriate as long as your baseline electrocardiogram is normal. (so that's it is interpretable)
Lots of things can cause chest pain: esophageal problems (acid reflux), stress, asthma, etc.
Great job turning things around!
