I am a 49 year old female in good health. In March 2007 I had a stroke. During T.E.E. testing a P.F.O. was found. I am currently on warfarin. I am trying to find a closure device that does not contain nickel. I have an allergy to nickel.  Thank you.

Adverse events have been reported very rarely in patients with nickel allergy who have PFO closure devices that contain nitinol.  A bio-absorbable( Bio-STAR ) device is being evaluated in animal models and in a Phase I trial.  There have been reports of PFO closure using Radio-frequency energy delivered to seal the PFO.  PFO's can also be treated surgically.  Unfortunately, there is not much data to advise you on this problem
