panic attacks and mitral regurgitation

panic attacks and mitral regurgitation

i have been having panic attack and anxiety like symptoms,  my doctor listened in about 10 spots on my chest and over on the left side of my ribs he said he heard a slight murmur  probably nothing but got me an echo done and there was mentioning of mild mitral and mild pulmonary regurgitation.   i then had a treadmill test and chest xray and that was normal.   do you think the regurgitation seen probably explained the slight murmur on the left of my upper ribs and  is mild regurgitations enough to cause panic attacks?  (i read mitral problems are linked to anxiety symptoms but didn't know if it had to be severe mitral problems or not?)

Mitral valve prolapse has been associated with anxiety and panic attacks.  There may be an association in your case if you have mitral valve prolapse. If the mitral regurgitation is mild no therapy is in general needed and just periodic echocardiograms are done to follow the valve problem.
