question about inderal or propranolol

by plunker, Mar 19, 2008 12:59PM
I've been given propranolol 10 mg to help control alleged SVT's or tachycardia, possibly topped off with a little anxiety..

What I'm wondering is , is it Okay / reasonable / safe / recommended to take this drug simply on as "as needed" basis...For example, can I take one before I go out of the house to last me, and just not take anymore for days,   maybe take one a week, or 2 a day,  mixing and matching....is it okay to treat this drug like that?

Also, I workout every day my target heart rate is 165 as I am 30 years old and was wondering how this will affect my workout?    Would it be okay / safe to just wait til right after my workout to take one?   I gather takign it before would be dumb,   but what about right after, or maybe an hour or 2 after?

Thanks for your time

Before you take any medicine you need to be sure you need it--is there a documented tachycardia??  In general, propranolol is safe and you could take it intermittently if you really need it.  I would not take it before the workout however.

I take Propranalol for 3 or 4 days at a time 3 or 4 times a day when the palpitations get really bad and then I won't take it for days or months.   Depending on how lucky I am that they stay away for a while. I've taken it before, during, and after workouts with no ill side effects.  sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.  Hope this helped you
