Bright red Blood

Hi there just wanted to ask I have been to a general surgeon for my external hemorrhoids and rectal bleeding, He told me that I should be able to get this under control by diet and staying regular but I still have the rectal bleeding here and there.  not a lot and I don't think it's in the stool.  Just on the toilet paper.  He said I did not have internal hemorrhoid only external.  Can IBS cause rectal bleeding and do you think this still could be from the external hemorrhoids.  He only scoped the lower part.

To answer your question:  both are possibilities.  IBS with constipation will cause anal fissures.  Chronic diarrhea can also irritate the rectum.  But, the hemorrhoids can cause a lot of bleeding, too.

If you're still having a lot of problems with your IBS and being told that you need to control your symptoms with diet and becoming regular, I would suggest seeing a naturopath.  Naturopaths can help you a lot to get your diet under control.  This doesn't mean that you ditch your current doctor.  This isn't about one side of the aisle versus the other and it's not about an either or approach.  The first thing a naturopath will have you do is go through a long process called an elimination diet.  Most of us have food sensitvities that we're not aware of.  If you ignore these food sensitivities, the problem will only get worse.  Food sensitivities cause problems for my IBS and my GERD.  Many of us have both problems.

I found that using flaxseed meal works far better for me than psyllium fiber.  It turns out that I am sensitive to psyllium fiber.  It definitely aggravates my GERD.  Flaxseed meal doesn't do this to me.  Flaxseed meal can also be added directly to the foods one eats, whereas this can't be done with psyllium fiber.
