Divertiqulitus

I was diagnosed with Divertiqulitus (sp) approximately 3 years ago. I went to the hospital in severe pain, had a CAT Scan, learned that I had a swelling the size of a baseball. Now I am passing blood in my stool....bright red in color. Can I do anything to avoid surery?
