Elavil from Prozac for IBS/Depression

I am tapering off 40 mg of Prozac which I was on for depression/mood swings. I have had IBS for several years & never been put on anything. Prozac didn't do anything for me except make me tired more moody & gain weight. I am now going to try Elavil for depression & IBS. I have heard the side effects are the same should I even bother? Any suggestions of what won't make me tired & gain weight for IBS & depression?? I have tried ALL ssris & no luck.

I was on Elavil for something years ago and the biggest problem is that it makes you VERY tired - even at low doses!  I would have such a hangover effect from the meds in the morning that I just couldn't wake up.

I am on 2 meds for my IBS - one is a prescription anti-spasmodic to control the painful spasms.  The other is just over the counter Imodium (immodium).  Both are just taken as needed.  The only other thing the doctor suggested was to increase my fiber levels - which only resulted in more severe constipation.
