Fiber - make IBS flare??

Fiber - make IBS flare??

Okay, I bought some fiber one bars b/c I was trying to get my intake up. If I eat one single bar I'm in intense pain. At first I didn't know what was wrong but after being away for the weekend I returned to work today. I had the Fiber One bar for breakfast and within an hour I'm doubled over. I'm absolutely sure this bar is the problem. I eat a variety of bars on a regualr basis but most only have 2-3 grams of fiber. These bars have 9 grams

I left work to go to the drug store. I thought gas x may help but so far it's not helping. I had 2 bottles of water b/c I thought it would help but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions!!!!

I have the same reaction to spinach and broccoli where both are super high in fiber.  I don't think it's the fiber itself but the dosage.  I'd stick to lower fiber bars if the other ones cause you pain.  I checked out some IBS "diets" on line and they talk a lot about soluble versus insoluble fiber... check it out.

I'm in the process right now of finding out what my "trigger" foods are.  It really ***** because I LOVE broccoli, spinach...not so much =)

I hadn't really though about fiber being bad, I guess. I always have problems with constipation with my IBS, so I have been trying to increase my fiber. However, that could explan why I've been having unusually bad gas lately, and it is pretty painful. It has, however, made me move my bowels more. Sometimes twice a day!  I guess I have to choose one or the other. Recently I started drinking the danactive yogurt, and, even though I'm lactose intolerent, it seems to be helping in a more healthy way than the fiber bars. I do still eat the fiber bars sometimes, but the yogurt seems to make it digest more normally.

I'll be monitoring my fiber intake more closely now.

I just want to say be careful with the fiber. I have IBS with diarrhea and a couple of years ago I decided to take Fiber Choice tablets - BIG mistake! I was in pain for a few days and went off the tablets completely and then I was okay. I think it is the amount of fiber that affects us - if it's too much, then you suffer from the pain. My Gastro doctor still wants me to take fiber, but I have been hesitant. She said to start out slow and slowly increase it.
